Information for teachers

The Football Football programme can offer a valuable contribution to Government’s ambition that every child has access to 5 hours of high quality PE & Sport per week.
In addition to the footballing elements of the programme wider skills will also be explored such as communication and team working to add to the young person’s overall development.
In addition to the broader physical activity and health debate in getting children more active, more often, helping to address childhood obesity and the rise in the incidence of Type 2 diabetes in young people the programme will also:
  • Supporting young people’s confidence and self-esteem, developing team work, communication and wider social and personal skills and in a high quality, fun environment
  • Promoting the principles of fairness, respect and empowerment: for example by children having the freedom to manage their own games in a safe environment
  • Contributing to the Government’s ambition of young people having access to five hours a week of high quality PE and Sport.
  • Addressing inequalities of young people wishing to be engaged in sport but without the opportunity to access a junior football team
  • Supporting those children who wish to play football in a more social context without the sometimes overbearing pressure of teams and league tables
  • Supporting wider community cohesion: bring young people together from a variety of backgrounds and circumstances through the power of football.
